In the field of Medical History

Dr Zamir Karim from Columbo University, Sri Lanka, visited University of Tehran Central Library and Documentation Center on September 12nd 2022. During his visit he met with CenLib Director, Dr. Fatemeh Saghafi.
Dr Karim’s extensive research in history of medicine has made him realize that Persian language had played a key role in development of medical science in south east Asia and medicine in Sri Lanka was based on a manuscripts prepared by Persian scientists. It is said that in one case the Sri Lankan monarch had been afflicted with a hard-to-cure illness from which he recovered thanks to the prescription of Persian Healers.
He further maintains that with the arrival of the British and Europeans, the manuscripts were pillaged and carted off to Europe. Thus medical training in Sri Lanka began to follow the European routine.
Dr Zamir will be offering a lecture on Tuesday 20th of September, from 2 ri 4 pm, at the CenLib. His topic is the impact of Iranians or medicine and culture of  Sri Lanka .
